The Sony Vaio M netbook that was rumored has just been announced officially by Sony. It’s a budget notebook but one that’s jumped to the latest generation Intel Atom chip, meaning faster response time from the processor and promising battery backup.

It’s a noteworthy first for Sony, as a cheaper offering than its previous Sony Vaio W premium netbook. Although Sony has yet to issue a retail price for the Sony Vaio M netbook, Tesco will offer it for £299 when it ships, making it the cheapest Vaio laptop ever.
For less money, you’ll also get a current gen Atom N450 1.66GHz processor inside the Sony Vaio M netbook, and while Sony isn’t dishing out far fetched battery life claims, we’d expect its power efficiency and the Sony Vaio M’s lower resolution screen will add up to more hours away from the mains.
